Umenoyado Brewery was founded in 1893 in the prefecture of Nara, Japan’s first capital and the birthplace of Japanese civilization. Although currently overshadowed by such major sake regions as Hyogo, Niigata and nearby Kyoto, Nara boasts the oldest sake brewing traditions in the entire country.
While drawing on such a deep and rich history of brewing premium sake Umenoyado has recently become a trailblazer for new categories and styles, in particular fine sake based liqueurs. We are very excited to carry their Aragoshi line of premium sake infused with high quality natural fruit, excellent on the rocks or in a myriad of cocktail applications. They have also pioneered the burgeoning sparkling sake category with their “Bunny” line of premium sake naturally carbonated in the bottle by a secondary fermentation they’ve dubbed “methode japonaise”.
Fifth generation owner and president Kayo Yoshida’s philosophy is to make sake rooted in tradition but with an eye toward the future, and to making sake that can be enjoyed both locally in Japan and around the world.
