Tasting Notes

Ohishi Tokubetsu Reserve Whisky is a rice whisky produced by the Ohishi Distillery in Mizukami, Japan. A blend of 27-year-old (29%), 10-year-old (35%), and 7-year-old (36%) Ohishi Sherry Cask whiskies distilled from malted and unmalted grains, this special release combines the expertise of two generations of Ohishi Master Distillers to craft what is considered the crown jewel of the Ohishi Distillery. The oldest whisky in the blend was distilled by the father of current Master Distiller, Kazunori Oishi, in 1974 to commemorate Kazunori’s birth. The 27-year-old whisky provides dark oak and the marks of old age, while the 7 and 10-year-old casks lend a youthfulness and zest, providing harmony and complexity to the final product. Aromas of pear, vanilla custard, amaretto, and mushroom transition to a palate of dried fig, tobacco, clove, white peppercorn, and oak with a substantial sherry influence; vanilla, butterscotch, and raisin round out the finish. Less than 1,500 bottles of this whisky are available worldwide. 40.5% ABV.
