Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 'The Chinquapin One'
Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 'The Chinquapin One'
- Peated Speyside single malt Scotch whisky produced by The GlenAllachie Distillery in Aberlour
- 100% malted barley peated with mainland peat from St. Fergus, one mile from the North Sea coast (final spirit PPM of 35)
- 160-hour fermentation in stainless steel washbacks
- Twice distilled in copper pot stills
- Aged a total of 5 years in ex-bourbon barrels followed by chinquapin virgin oak barrels sourced from the Northern Ozarks in Missouri
- Aromas of carnitas, banana pudding, and tobacco leaf continue to the palate and are joined by cinnamon, sweet BBQ sauce, and cornbread with honey. A spike of campfire peat on the mid-palate is complemented by a finish of fresh green apple.
- No added coloring
- Non-chill filtered; 48% ABV
Chinquapin white oak (Quercus muehlenbergii) sourced from Missouri’s Northern Ozarks has a long history in American cooperage but has only recently begun to receive attention as a distinct choice in maturation. With a slightly richer, nuttier character than its Quercus Alba cousin, virgin chinquapin here adds a compelling aspect of savory spice to Meikle Tòir’s core peated profile. The result nostalgically calls to mind summer slow cooks and open fires.

"Comforting smoke envelops the nose, with early notes of creosote, wooden fish boxes, and iodine, followed by vanilla sponge, honey, wood spice, toasted oak, crystallized ginger, and a light dusting of cinnamon. The palate brings dried cherry, milk chocolate, burnt sugar, toasted flaked almonds, espresso, aniseed balls, clove, and forest honey, with a lengthy finish of granola and roasted spices."
