Ried Steinertal
Steinertal is an extremely complex location that offers optimal terrain for both Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. The situation turns a little to the southwest, so in the evening always gets some heat, which are relativized by air currents from the north accordingly. The ground thickness varies considerably, as does the temperature within the location. The Riesling is rooted in the highest and barren plots and is a reflection of the natural conditions.

"An exceptionally cool and complex expression of the underrated Steinertal site overflowing with wild-berry, herb and fern aromas plus a staggering wet-stone freshness. Sleek and incredibly focused with a primordial energy that takes your breath away. Decades of aging potential but so exciting now. Drink or hold."

"The 2023 Riesling Steinertal Smaragd is picked in one of the highest parcels of this site on orthogneiss. Scentedness and grace are clear and bright, represented by lemon and lemon leaf. The palate is exquisitely bright and presents heightened citrus sensibilities; the purest lemon just soars and sings. The palate is slender, bright and vivid, just not as long as last year. This needs time to unfold all of its undoubted elegance. (Bone-dry)"

"Earthy, stony, savoury, meaty Riesling, churning with acidity and mineral flavours, sparkling but hard. Very impressive, and needs time to lengthen. (TQT)"

"The 2022 Riesling Steinertal Smaragd is from some of the highest terraces of the Steinertal site on orthogneiss. The faint citrus notions on the nose are not yet prepared to unpack their charms. The palate is an absolutely taut, svelte and chiseled expression of stone, painted with the purest citrus nuances. Lemon and tangerine take turns to express a stony, austere but beguiling purity. If you are looking for a blockbuster, this is not for you, but if you are looking for poise, expression, transparency and precision, you have just arrived home. All is in harmony here, and all has a light touch. Depth and length prove the point. (Bone-dry)"

"The 2022 Ried Steinertal Riesling Smaragd shows a typically clear, bright, cool, spicy and dense Riesling/apricot nose with defined fruit and flesh. It is dense and juicy on the palate but also complex and enormously salty yet somewhat phenolic and slightly stressed toward the end. It has a salty finish and is full of character but needs a little more time to develop further. Tasted at Schloss Dürnstein, Wachau, in September 2023."
