"The fine and gentile 2023 Riesling Great Western offers delicate yet finely tuned aromas of citrus pith, green pineapple and wet stones in a savory style. Dry and currently a little angular with a fresh acid bite, the cool vintage has delivered a vibrant and age-worthy expression. This wine is still tightly wound and holding its streamlined shape through to a super long finish. It has definite potential to improve in bottle."

"The 2023 Riesling is positively loaded with flavor. Taut, complex and fine, despite its power, this is a spicy, lean, thrumming number—very good indeed. This offers brilliant value for money at under $25 AUD. This pristine wine is unmissable, in fact. 11.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap."

"Excellent riesling, having moved well away from the the oft-domestic norm of battery-acid dryness and talcy acidity, some years ago. Succulent kaffir lime, baking apple, quince and nashi pear. A waft of phenolics as useful as the trickle of acidity, juicy and palpably natural. This draws the saliva from the mouth. Reaching for the next glass is auto-pilot. Bravo! Drink or hold. Screw cap."

"A succulent and elegant Australian dry riesling with tons of crisp pear, white-peach and white-flower aromas. Very good concentration and excellent balance on the medium-bodied palate. Drink or hold. Screw cap."

"#39 Best 50 Wines of 2023: Best's has five generations of experience in the Australian town of Great Western. This sub-region in Victoria boasts high-elevation vineyards, making it ideal for Riesling production. And this wine is a great example of how spot-on Australian Riesling can be. It has a bright, angular nose with some juicy fruit to contrast the austerity. A little white pepper flits in the glass as well. Full with a nice juicy grip and some welcome effervescence on the palate."

"The fruit for this 2022 Riesling is from the Great Western region in Victoria. The mother vines were planted in 1866 in the Nursery Block, a proud and very long history behind what is now a routinely great value wine. On the nose, salted lemon flesh, grapefruit, Granny Smith apples, talc and spring flowers adorn the aromas, while the palate falls in syncopated step. The palate has a deceptive richness that belies the light nose, while the finish lingers well beyond the wine itself. Wonderful, excellent and impressive."
