Rauenthal Riesling Trocken

Rauenthal Riesling Trocken

Rauenthal Riesling Trocken

You need patience as you plow through some reduction aromas. But then—then! Brilliant, silvery, exotic and mineral; the finish is more an atmosphere than a taste. But if you insist, there’s some yellow fruit, some purple flowers, some cool aloe, and some fine terroir.

"The 2023 Rauenthal Estate opens with clear, bright and ripe fruit with some pink nuances intertwined with terroir-driven depth and also saline nuances. Rich and lush but elegant and refined on the palate, this is a generous yet precise and stimulating fresh and citric Rauenthaler with a persistent texture and flesh and stimulating bite. Substantial without being heavy, this is rather baroque from a coolish terroir. 11% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024."

"Intensely spicy nose with plenty of quince and dried-pear character, also some minty freshness. Impressive structure on the medium-bodied palate, where there's easily enough ripeness and spice to harmonize this. Long, mineral and textural finish. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drink or hold. Screw cap."

"The 2022 Riesling Estate Rauenthal is from the local schist soils with sand-loam topsoil and is quite a distance from the river, facing southeast, lending morning sun but no real heat. Breur notes that ripeness is always more moderate and picking later. Creaminess appears on the nose, with tender Reine Claude plums. The palate is lighter, saltier, very fresh and stonier. The creaminess apparent on the nose seems to have been replaced by something more insistent, saltier, naked. It is almost austere, with less charm but more salt. This is not as resonant as Rüdesheim on the finish, but it is a wonderful comparison. (Bone-dry)"
