"This magnificent German pinot noir is deep and highly structured with a brilliant harmony of black and sour cherry fruit and delicate vanilla oak. Very serious, but also fine tannins support the full-bodied palate. Very long, compact finish with wonderful freshness. Enormous aging potential. Drinkable now, but best from 2025."

"The 2020 Pinot Noir Caroline is a selection of the very best barrels. The Pinot Noirs are released within one year of bottle age. Both wet and dried oak leaves frame the restrained, dark cherry fruit. A cool florality and a smidgeon of white pepper set subtle accents. The palate is light and fine-boned. A subtle tannic structure has the pleasant, tender crunch of starched silk chiffon. Freshness pervades and emphasizes the stony, cool aspect of the wine. The long, fresh finish underlines the elegant tannin structure. (Bone-dry)"

"The 2020 Pinot Noir Caroline is deep, pure, intense and peppery on the remarkably refined and clear nose that indicates ripe and elegant cherry fruit intertwined with tobacco as well as iodine and tea aromas. Silky, smooth, fresh and very elegant on the palate, this is an intense and salivating mineral, palate-cleansing Pinot that is very different from the rich and dense Réserve and more based on finesse and elegance. In 2020, the Caroline Pinot is, so to speak, the Apollonian version of the Dionysian Réserve. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Burg Layen in February 2025."
