Portions of the Laurentiuslay vineyard are quite rocky, with its 40 to 80 percent slope rises in some places over the Mosel and is visible from far away, the Mosel downhill. Therefore, the vines are unshaded and benefit in their south-southwest orientation almost all day long from intense sunlight – the climate is hot but still well ventilated by the open position of the GL. The gray Devoschiefer also stores the heat throughout the day and gives it to the vines at night.

"Bright and immediately cool—think of a sunny, outdoor jazz festival on a late summer day—this has the juicy freshness of a crisp cider apple, along with its frisky acidity. The savor and depth of flavor lasts, along with a scent of flowering herbs. This rocky site faces south-southwest, the vines clinging to grey slate on a 40- to 80-percent slope."
