Kreuznacher Krötenpful:
The loess loam soil of the Krötenpfuhl vineyard is notable for its high share of gravelly quartzite. Between the stony ground and its southern aspect, this neighbor to the Kahlenberg is known for warm soils and early flowering of the vines year after year. The loess loam substrate retains water well, ensuring the vines have sufficient moisture even in drought years. Vines growing in this type of pebbly soil tend to produce small berries with delicate aromas, a lively acidity and a long hang time.

This small site’s advantageous microclimate ranks it among the warmest, most southerly facing and mineral-rich of the prized vineyards in Bad Kreuznach. The truly sublime Rieslings it has produced have played no small part in the growing global reputation of Nahe wines.

"This is like a whole garden of fresh herbs bathed in morning dew plus a touch of fully ripe gooseberries. This starts quite round and very silky on the medium-bodied palate, then the energy and structure gently build to a serious crescendo. Fantastic harmony right through the very long finish. Drink from release."

"The 2023 Kreuznacher Krötenpfuhl Riesling trocken GG is deep, clear, fresh and even coolish on the intense and savory, slightly vegetal, elegant, complex and promising nose. On the palate, this is a round and intense, well-concentrated and finely juicy yet refined and elegant Riesling intermingled with fluent minerals that lead to a long, intense and balanced yet also tensioned and finely saline finish. This is an excellent Krötenpfuhl with a mouth-filling texture that includes fine grip and ripe, elegant acidity. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in August and October 2024."
