Kamptal

Ried Steinsetz:
A single vineyard in the village of Gobelsburg, very close to the winery. Rather than the typical loess based soils that GV is typically grown in, Steinsetz is alluvial gravel with smooth, rounded river stones that would be at home in Ch. Neuf. This is a cooler site and produces wines that have more snap and less concentration than the other GV sites Ried Renner and Ried Lamm, which are all Erste Lagen. 100% natural ferment in large Manhatsberg (Austrian local oak from the Kamptal) oak cask, left to mature for ten months before bottling.

"The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Ried Steinsetz is grown on alluvial Danubian deposits on a former riverbed, sandy and rich in quartzite with a thin loess cover. It was fermented and aged for a year in a large barrel. Moss and lichen on the nose come with a frisson of white pepper and creaminess. The palate continues in this peppery, spicy vein and delivers absolute Grüner spice. Green pear and lemon play second fiddle to this immense savoriness that runs along the slender body like quicksilver. (Bone-dry)"

"The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Ried Steinsetz is from an unusual site in Gobelsburg that is dominated by Danubian alluvium. The nose holds sunny, friendly stone fruit, but the palate comes in with a spray of white pepper on a super-fresh frame. This is taut and slender with just a little savoriness around the edges. The finish is subtle, quiet and bone-dry. (Bone-dry)"
