Ried Gaisberg:
The slopes of this wine-growing area vineyard extend eastwards from the Heiligenstein mountain; they have a clear southerly aspect and an average gradient of about 11%. The low-lying areas have highly calcareous chernozem soils with fragments of crystalline rocks, derived from the underlying loess which in turn overlies gravel beds. The upper parts of the slopes consist predominantly of gneiss with amphibolite lenses, and occasional remnants of loess. The overlying soil is calcareous brown earth with varying proportions of coarse material. Where the brown earth rests directly on gneiss it is generally non-calcareous but it may be calcareous where it has developed on amphibolite.

Harvest end of September / beginning of October. Whole bunch pressing, fermen- tation without temperature control and using only natural yeasts with maturation occurring in both stainless steel tanks and large oak barrels. The wine rested on the lees until middle of June prior to bottling at the beginning of August and release in September 2018.

"The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Gaisberg is grown on loess and mica schist. It was whole-bunch-pressed and fermented half in stainless steel, half in both acacia and used oak. This contains a small proportion of Riesling from the same site to add more freshness. The nose has the very slightest sense of cumin at first, followed by both citrus and green pear peel. The palate also dips into this savory pool of herb, spice and citrus but adds a smoother, fruitier, edgier element. This is subtle—nothing here is obvious, but it quietly gets under the skin. A citrus tang rings along with the spice. (Bone-dry)"

"The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Ried Gaisberg 1–TW opens with elegant, finely spiced and cool fruit on the nose and is elegant and balanced on the palate, showing good substance and intensity on the finish. 13% stated alcohol. Screw cap."
