Schloss Gobelsburg Ried Lamm 1 TW Kamptal DAC Grner Veltliner

Variety: Grüner Veltliner
Region: Kamptal DAC Reserve
Vineyard: Ried Lamm
Soil Type: Permian sandstone, clay

Ried Lamm:
Ried Lamm is situated on the southeast slope of the Heiligenstein. Besides erosion material from Heiligenstein (perm, red siltstone) a high proportion of clay can be found here. The vineyard is south-facing and very well exposed. This helps develop the grapes for a wine that, after maturation in traditional double-foudre casks from local forest of Manhartsberg, shows great power and elegance.

"With its dried papaya notes and leesy, spicy complexity, this Ried Lamm makes a bold statement. Rich on the front of the full-bodied palate. The textural complexity builds in the long finish, which has plenty of candied pineapple freshness, salty minerality and savory character."

"A gentle honeyed note introduces a deep golden aroma of mature fruit – golden pear, bitter orange – with no loss of freshness and energy. Slightly woody/cedary (not oaky). In fact there is a slight sour note on the finish which adds to the freshness. Mouth-filling and yet fresh and long, with a slight chalkiness on the finish. A wine you cannot (should not) rush. (JH)"

"The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Ried Lamm is a loess site on sandstone at the foot of Heiligenstein. It was fermented and aged in large, 5,000 and 6,000-liter oak, one of them new. A touch of honey on the nose insinuates itself on a creamy nose. More air adds gentle spice, almost like anise. The palate takes this same spice and creaminess and unites them in pear juiciness. The texture and savor make the wine. The body is rounded but has a fresh, zesty contour. It is gentle and smooth but really fresh with a long, chamomile-like savor. (Bone-dry)"
