Kammern Kamptal DAC Grüner Veltliner

Hirsch Kammern Kamptal DAC Grner Veltliner

Variety: Grüner Veltliner
Region: Kamptal

Soil Type: Loess and loam
Fermentation & Élevage: Whole bunch pressing. Long, slow fermentation in stainless steel until the following spring
Farming: Respekt Certified Biodynamic

This is the old ‘Kammern Heiligenstein’ wine, which was discontinued in 2014 as it was too confusing to have a GV and a Riesling with such a similar name. So, Johannes made the concession and is calling this a village wine, as it ought to be, but the sources – Renner, Grub, Lamm, Gaisberg – are the same. Excellent vineyards, that together form a wider look at this part of the Kamptal.

The loess and loamy soils that lie on the outer rims of Kammern, the traditional wine-growing village, are among the most fascinating terroirs in the Kamptal.

"The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Kammern was harvested from Lamm, Grub, Renner and Gaisberg from vines that are too young to make into the site-designated wines. The fruit was whole-bunch-pressed and sedimented, with still slightly cloudy juice fermented spontaneously in stainless steel. A gentle reduction blows off to reveal absolutely savory, salty yeast. The palate adds just an edge of Reine Claude plum but pushes that peppery, crushed herb savoriness to the fore, finishing salty and lemony. (Bone-dry)"
