"The nose is dominated by dried violets, balsamic, earth, clay, strawberries and dried cherries. Full-bodied with ripe, velvety tannins, woven but chewy acidity and super-savory length. Power with grace. Just a bit warming on the finish, yet balanced. Drinkable now, but best from 2029."

"The 2019 Gattinara Riserva is a deep, potent, austere wine. Dried cherry, white pepper, chalk, mint, herbs and dried flowers give the 2019 a super-classic profile. Firm, driving tannins reinforce that impression. Even though this is the estate's entry-level Gattinara, it is a wine that needs time. This is not an easygoing offering by any means."

"The 2018 Gattinara Riserva is seriously impressive, especially considering it is Antoniolo's entry-level Gattinara. Deep, layered and dynamic in the glass, the 2018 has so much to offer. Macerated red cherry, menthol, licorice, spice, cedar and leather fill out the layers. This is all class—the hidden gem in this range."

"This has mellowed nicely, featuring fading aromas and flavors of cherry, plum, spice, leather and tobacco. Complex and supple, this red delivers fine balance and a long, detailed, saline aftertaste. Drink now through 2032. 1,500 cases made, 450 cases imported.  –BS"

"Antoniolo's 2017 Gattinara Riserva is a powerful, burly wine that is going to need a number of years to come together, and then likely more time after that to truly be in the zone. Today, the tannins are a bit overpowering, and yet there is plenty of depth behind all of that acid and structure. Macerated red cherry, spice, dried herbs, tobacco, incense and orange peel lend quite a bit of character. Patience is a must. There is certainly a ton to look forward to."
