Destilado de Agave Santos Juarez Mezonte
  • Destilado de Agave produced in Toliman, Jalisco

  • Cooked in a traditional earthen pit oven using mesquite wood
  • Milled by hand using hatchets with wood and metal mallets
  • Fermented with spring water in black-volcanic-stone vats
  • Distilled using a hybrid Filipino-style pot still of copper & the hollow trunk of the Parota tree
  • 49% ABV (ABV may vary batch to batch)

Raised beside the Tuxcacuesco River, Santos Juarez and his son Ricardo are both experienced farmers, cultivating not only 12 distinct varieties of agave (nearly all subspecies of Agave angustifolia), but simultaneously raising traditional milpa crops of corn, squash, and beans alongside tropical fruits like mango, papaya, and pomegranate, and even caretaking bees to promote pollination and to extract honey. Ricardo moved temporarily to Washington State as well, working in orchards of apples & pears, and returned with new knowledge and skills to apply to their family’s land and spirits. The impact of this generational and agrarian approach echoes in every scent and sip of their destilados; understandably, Santos and his family are one of the lynch pins in Mezonte’s line up of heritage producers.
