"Offering up aromas of crisp stone fruits, pear, buttered toast, musky peach and smoke, the 2018 Extra-Brut Premier Cru Clos de l'Abbaye was disgorged this year with two grams per liter dosage. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and precise, with a nicely concentrated core of fruit, racy acids and a long, chalky finish, the 2018 is quite a fine-boned, elegant rendition of this bottling. As readers will remember, this cuv,e derives from a walled 0.4-hectare plot of 60-year-old cordon-pruned vines (including some muscat, selections of Chardonnay) just behind the winery in Vertus, and only the first and second serres of the press are used."

"Tasted out of magnum, the 2018 Champagne Clos De L'Abbaye sports a youthful silver/green-tinged hue and is elegant and perfumed with powder, fresh flowers, Anjou pear, and almond paste. It has a refined and delicate texture, and although it's not the most concentrated of wines, it's quite appealing and pretty, rounded out by a refined, pillowy mousse and a lot of finesse. It's approachable now but has the potential to improve with time. It's really just and easy-drinking and lovely all-around wine to drink over the coming 10-15 years."

"Firm and integrated, this satiny version offers toast, poached apple and lemon curd flavors. Hints of lime blossoms, graphite, grilled nuts and warm spices are flattering embellishments that linger on the refreshing finish. Disgorged May 2023. Drink now through 2034. 500 cases made, 100 cases imported."

"Hailing from a 0.36-hectare walled vineyard that was planted in 1956 just behind the winery in Vertus, the 2019 Extra-Brut Premier Cru Clos de l'Abbaye was disgorged in June 2024 with two grams per liter dosage. It's a very chalky terroir, and it has been farmed organically since 2008, explains Doyard. What makes the resulting wine unique is that the 2019 vintage includes approximately 15% to 20% muscaté selections of Chardonnay, which brings mildly musky aromatics to the wine. Soaring from the glass with a complex bouquet of peach, grapefruit zest, pear, dried white flowers and walnut, it is concentrated and deep, with considerable flavor intensity, bright acids and a persistent, saline finish. Vinified entirely in barrels, ranging from three to 15 years old, only first and second pressing juices are used, accounting for about 60% of the total juice extract. It's a particular highlight this year, which Guillaume calls the finest vintage since he took the reins at the estate in 2017."
