"Aromas of raspberries, licorice, cassis and dark wild berries preface the 2022 Chinon Vieilles Vignes, a medium-bodied, enveloping and layered wine with a seamless, fine-grained texture complemented by powdery tannins and concluding with a long and ethereal finish. This vintage is one of the most precise and pure expressions of Vieilles Vignes I have ever tasted. Kudos!"

"Much more structure, less immediate charm than the straight Chinon – this definitely needs a year or two. But the tannins are fine and elegant – a dark-berry fruit-driven Chinon with concentration and potential. (AWH)"

"The 2021 Vieilles Vignes is a job well done in a tricky season. Pure, lifted and admirably fragrant, it offers up cassis alongside raspberries. It is a lithe, athletic expression of these old vines, with a line of acidity that punches through, lending freshness and brightness."

"A bit whiffy and ghoulish. Needs air. The acidity is fresh but there is a humid dankness that seems to sit on the wine and weigh it down. A stubborn wine. Time? Decanting? Difficult to work out in a big walk-around tasting. (TC)"
