- 100% Chenin Blanc
- The Hoë-Steen vineyard is 2HA in size and planted in 1968, west of Malmesbury towards Darling
- Deep, red iron and clay rich soils that are most probably the deepest soils David and Nadia work with
- Late ripening block due to south facing slopes
- The vineyard was planted on a “massale” selection method, with a recent discovery of some Cape Riesling (Crouchen blanc), False Pedro, Palomino, Sémillon and Clairette blanche vines
- The vineyard remains predominantly Steen and is part of the Cape’s old vineyard history
- Hand harvested over 2 picking dates and matured in old French oak barrels for 1 year
- Certified Heritage Vineyards (CHV) seal and forms part of the Old Vine Project (OVP)

"Light, buttery, lactic notes on the nose. Gentle crystallised fruit that gently sways on the palate with fabulous mineral granitic nuances and a sleek, polished persistence on the finish."

"A perfumed nose of white peaches, dried lemon peel, hazelnut and grated nutmeg. Medium- to full-bodied. Rather enveloping with pristine freshness and clarity. Silky texture. So much delicacy and grace here. Subtle tannins. Attractive now but will age wonderfully. From vineyards planted in 1968. Sustainable. Drink or hold."

"Soft, focused and citrus-driven, the 2021 Hoe-Steen Chenin Blanc offers aromas of yellow cherry skin, lemon rind and dusty white flowers on the nose. Light to medium-bodied, the Chenin compresses on the palate to show a delightful, food-friendly texture and ends with a bright mineral-laced finish. I think it will drink better in time, so be patient."
