An old-vine Mencía-based field blend with Bastardo (Trousseau) and Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet) • sourced from a miniscule (< 1-hectare) parcel at 700m above sea level on slate outside the village of Valdecañada in the Ponferrada zone of eastern Bierzo • spontaneous whole-cluster fermentation in open-top vat • 45 days of post-fermentation maceration • aged for one year, with flor, in two neutral 225L French barriques • bottled unfined and unfiltered • just 550 bottles produced • ‘Petra’ is Latin for ‘rock’, a reference to the distinctive terroir of the parcel
