"Bright aromas of lilacs, roses and sliced strawberries follow through to a full and structured palate with lots of polished tannins, vivid acidity and a fresh finish. Needs five to seven years to soften, but impressive energy. Drink after 2028."

"Aromatically more expressive and ripe with red flowers and fruits, the 2019 Barolo Ravera is more exuberant and open at this stage, with candied cherry, menthol, and sweet balsamic herbs. The palate takes a more savory and coiled stance at this youthful stage, with iron-rich earth, grenadine, and salted orange. Building tannins are in concert with a persistent spine of acidity that will need time to loosen its grip, but this is a fantastic wine to hold and drink 2026-2046."

"Blue flower, perfumed berry and camphor aromas segue into flavors of strawberry compote, white pepper and Alpine herb. It's focused, vibrant and all about finesse, with bright acidity and a pristine finish. Fine-grained tannins offer lithe support. Drink 2029–2039. Abv: 14.5% Kerin O'Keefe April 2023"

"The 2019 Barolo Ravera is a striking, vivid wine. Crushed rose petal, mint, orange peel and white pepper lend an exotic flair. Tightly-wound and nervy, but with notable depth, the 2019 is classic Ravera through and though. I would give it a few years to soften, as the acids and tannins are both very youthfully vibrant. Clean mineral notes frame the intensely saline, taut finish."

"With fruit from the village of Novello, this wine is more articulate and shows clearer aromas compared to some of the other Barolos in this set of new releases. The Paolo Scavino 2019 Barolo Ravera takes a little extra time to come into focus. There is dark fruit, dried cherry, spice and some light tarry smoke. With time, the wine begins to show more complexity and nuance. Some 8,200 bottles were made."

"There's some flesh in this red to embrace the cherry, plum, earth, mineral and orange peel aromas and flavors. Juniper and wild herb accents emerge as this firms up on the long finish. Best from 2026 through 2045. —B.S."

"Compact, concise and spiced with berries, warm herbs, forest floor and crushed black pepper aromas. Medium- to full-bodied with fine, firm tannins and crisp acidity. Vivid and crunchy with succulent small berries and sour cherries. It has a transparent character to it at the core and a racy finish with good length. Try after 2028."

"Novello. Lustrous mid ruby. Concentrated, leafy cherry nose, but with a more playful, medium-weight palate of juicy raspberry fruit. Tannic grip and with long, fragrant fruit aromas on the finish."

"Dark ruby, the 2020 Barolo Ravera is expressive and leads with mineral-tinged aromas of graphite, raspberry liqueur, sweet flowers, pine, and mossy earth. Medium-bodied, it displays more intensity on the palate, with an elegant but more chiseled feel, ripe tannins, even, energetic acidity, and a mouthwatering finish. It's going to benefit from another couple years in bottle. Drink 2026-2046."

"Aromas of dog rose, wild herb, camphor and dark spice come together on the stunning 2020 Paolo Scavino Ravera. It's spicy and savory, delivering a core of raspberry compote accented by star anise, mocha and a hint of orange zest. Tightly woven, fine-grained tannins provide seamless support while fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Drink 2027–2032. Abv: 14.5%"

"The 2020 Barolo Ravera is sleek, elegant and polished. It offers a captivating mix of the savory/mineral intensity of this site and the slightly smaller-scaled structure of the year. Black cherry, lavender, sage, coffee, mint and gravel abound. Elisa Scavino has done a terrific job softening the potent Ravera tannins. I can't wait to see how this ages."

"This is a retaste. This parcel of Ravera in Novello has eastern exposures and rests on a flatter area at 430 meters above sea level. The site is open to the mountains, embracing air currents and luminosity. The Scavino family has three parcels in this MGA, measuring 2.8 hectares in total. The 2020 Barolo Ravera appears tight, nervous and complex. It shows ashy mineral tones, ferrous notes, underbrush, green herb and dark fruit. The mouthfeel is quite narrow and nervous at this young stage. I would suggest more bottle age."

"The nose lifts out of the glass with aromas of crushed raspberries, cherries and sour plum alongside a captivating array of mixed spices and wild herbs. The palate boasts a firm structure that showcases the interplay between macerated wild berries and the earthy elements that are still developing. This well-made wine is striking in its balance and intensity. Drink 2026–2045. Cellar Selection. —J.P."

"Infused with berry and floral aromas and flavors, this red is lithe and elegant, with terrific harmony and length. Mineral, tar and wild herb accents add depth, but this is more about the fruit. The aftertaste is complex and really persists. Best from 2027 through 2047. 800 cases made, 250 cases imported. - B.S."

"The 2021 Barolo Ravera is captures all the signatures of this site. Iron, white pepper, sage, mint, chalk and red-toned fruit all grace this sculpted, vibrant young Barolo. I especialy admire its energy and tension. Clean mineral notes support the bracing finish. Readers should plan on cellaring the 2021 for at least a few years."

"You feel the dark fruit intensity of Novello in the Paolo Scavino 2021 Barolo Ravera. This is a very fine and well-constructed wine with layers of ripe cherry, iris root, crushed stone and licorice. The tannins are powdery, but the wine's structure remains firm and intact. Ravera promises a long life but remains attractive and accessible in the medium term, should you choose to uncork this bottle sooner."
