"The Paolo Conterno 2020 Barolo Ginestra opens to a smooth personality with dark fruit, blackcurrant and grilled herb. Despite that soft entry, the wine's power should not be underestimated. You feel it in the strong tannic texture and in the high 15.5% alcohol content. In fact, this wine has quite a mouthfeel, especially when young. It needs more time in bottle. 16,000 bottles were released."

"Expressive and exuding cherry, incense, spice and wild herb flavors, this red is juicy and instantly gratifying. Its line of dense tannins is uplifting, while the finish persists with fruity, savory and spicy elements. Best from 2028 through 2043. 800 cases made, 267 cases imported."

"Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Noble, complex yet subdued cherry with a peppery tingle. Lots of juicy but monolithic fruit with a fantastic layer of fine, gripping tannins. Embryonic. (WS) 14.5%"

"A dark and restrained Barolo with a serious profile. On the nose it shows potpourri, leather, dried cherries and blood oranges, more austere than overt or elegant. Firm and full-bodied, with muscular, dusty tannins and savory flavors. Tight yet balanced at the end. Try after 2025."

"Just mid ruby. Like an amplified and super-minerally version of their Riva del Bric. Focused, concentrated cherry fruit with a suggestion of cinnamon. Fluid red fruit followed by a nice bite of chewy tannins. Very long and intense. Just a slight heat on the finish. Blockbuster kind of wine. (WS)"

"This red is rich and succulent, with cherry, raspberry, plum, tar, iron and eucalyptus permeating the generous profile. Dusty tannins lift this up, while the flavors remain persistent and fan out on the lengthy finish. Complex and stylish. Best from 2026 through 2043. —B.S."

"The 2015 Barolo Ginestra opens with scents of raspberry, orange peel, star anise and cinnamon. Powerful and wiry, the 2015 expresses the essence of Ginestra, with that combination of aromatic intensity and nervous energy that is such a signature. I would cellar it for a few years, as the tannins are a bit edgy at this stage. Alternatively, a few hours of air will to the trick."

"The 2015 Barolo Ginestra shows real complexity and depth. It exudes a profound nature in general. Mineral tones lead the clean, fresh entry, followed by more savory notes. This is from Paolo Conterno's home vineyard cru, with vines planted right up to the edges of the winery and the family house. This Barolo is nuanced and multifaceted, and it will stand up to a couple of decades in the cellar."

"The 2013 Barolo Ginestra shows grace and purity, with significant power at the back that is partially fueled by the wine's well-integrated alcohol (recorded at 15%). The wine's texture is compact, and the flavor knitting is tight and carefully detailed. These qualities bode very well for the future evolution of this vintage that will undoubtedly soften and flesh out with more time in the bottle."
