"At 70 years old, the estate's oldest vines are found in a 1ha plot on Giachini's south-facing slope at a modest 280m. The warmth of the site is palpable in the density, substance and ripeness of this 2021 – yet freshness still reigns, and aromas of wild flowers and forest floor are extremely becoming. On the palate, layers of dark raspberry take on earthy depths with mushroom accents, and the chewy tannins are pliant and give balanced support. A very juicy finish."

"A very floral wine with aromas of potpourri, red fruit and citrus. It's a bit low key. Medium- to full-bodied on the palate, it shows ripe tannins, tight and integrated acidity and a balanced, toasty finish. Try from 2027."

"The 2021 Barolo Giachini is complex and dynamic in the glass. Macerated cherry, licorice, incense, mocha and blood orange are all nicely delineated in a soft, mid-weight Barolo that captures all the charm of La Morra. This opens beautifully with time in the glass. Succulent contours wrap it all together."

"Refined, complex and nuanced nose with grainy minerals, grapefruit, white pepper and a mossy edge. Transparent but broad on the palate with lots of crushed wet stones and a tight, nervy finish. Delicate but powerful and ethereal too. Lots of finesse and texture. Drink from 2026."

"Ruby in color, the 2020 Barolo Giachini brings forward a more medicinally spiced profile, with notes of menthol, Bing cherries, wild herbs, and tarry earth. Medium-bodied, it is another very well-styled wine with snappy lift, a saline finish, and good ripeness throughout. It has finely coiled tannins and even acidity. Drink 2025-2035. I'm impressed with these wines from Fratelli."

"The 2020 Barolo Giachini comes across as quite closed today. The aromatics are expressive, and yet the wine feels much more reticent on the palate. Sweet red cherry, leather, pipe tobacco, cedar and dried flowers open with great reluctance. It will be interesting to see if time in bottle helps this come together a bit more fully."

"The 2019 Barolo Giachini is plush, sensual and inviting, as wines from this cru so often are. Soft, silky tannins wrap around a core of macerated red cherry, spice, new leather, incense and blood orange. The fruity, open-knit style offers tons of immediacy and plenty of appeal."
