"The 2020 Barolo Gallinotto, from vines in Berri, makes a strong first impression. A burst of dark, macerated cherry, spice, crushed leaves, new leather, tobacco, orange peel and mint races out of the glass. More than anything else, the Gallinotto impresses with its translucent energy, depth and beguiling complexity. Aging is 60% cask and 40% used French oak barrique. This is beautifully done."

"The 2020 Barolo Gallinotto is fully loaded with ripe fruit without going too far. There is a core of red fruits framed by pie crust and delicate baking spices. The wine picks up speed in terms of mouthfeel, with energy and intense berry flavors, while maintaining harmony. The tannins are integrated and accessible. The wine is generally balanced from all points of view. It ages in both barrique and larger wood barrels. Production is 8,000 bottles."

"Medium ruby in color, the 2020 Barolo Gallinotto is distinctive, with floral and savory aromas in its forward notes of perfectly ripe apricots, candied raspberries, fresh mint, and orange peel. Ripe though medium-bodied, it displays a bit more intensity on the palate, with iron mineral notes, salted orange, and a clean, stony finish. It's a touch more angular in its feel and is going to show well over the coming 10-12 years."

"Notes of red cherries, dried blood oranges, rose hips and hints of licorice. It is juicier and supple on the palate, with bright red fruit dominating. Medium-bodied with polished tannins and a sleek aftertaste. Shows firmness at the end. It is already attractive, but will be best to drink after three to four years."

"This red falls more into the balsamic camp, offering eucalyptus, juniper, Scotch broom and wild rosemary aromas and flavors. Raspberry and strawberry fruit adds complexity, while this ends with a firm, chalky feel. Best from 2028 through 2042. 765 cases made, 280 cases imported."

"This is a proprietary vineyard name, and in most years, the fruit hails from Berri in La Morra. The Mauro Molino 2021 Barolo Gallinotto has a little more fruit definition and a little less mineral definition compared to the estate's village bottling. The wine ferments in stainless steel and continues to barrique for malolactic fermentation, then it ends up in both small and larger oak vessels for aging. I found earthy notes of tree bark and iris root at the core of this pretty wine, but it settles to reveal pressed flowers and forest berry. This is a release of 10,000 bottles."

"Though not declared on the label, Gallinotto hails from the relatively remote, lesser-known MGA of Berri. Mauro purchased 5ha here in 1994, when others considered it too cold for Nebbiolo. This limited-edition bottling is crafted from the best exposed south- to southwest-facing plot. Aged in used barriques, it emerges with grilled herbs, mace and subtle vanillin atop strawberry and macerated red cherry. Succulent and juicy through the core, the palate opens up to further accents of tobacco, mint and sweet earth. A measured ballast of well-knit, pliant tannins stitches all together. Pristine and seamlessly balanced."

"The cranberry, orange and floral character is so compelling, with a medium body and ultra-fine tannins that are integrated and vivid. Crisp acidity backs it up. Needs time to soften, but a gorgeous young red. Drink after 2028."

"The 2021 Barolo Gallinotto is a very pretty wine from this high-elevation site in La Morra. Kirsch, orange peel, spice, mint and sweet red cherry fruit are all woven together in a lithe, silky Barolo that captures all the elegance of La Morra."

"From the site of Conca, a small amphitheater where the Molinos own one-third of the vineyard, the 2019 Barolo Conca offers up pure aromas of red cherry, fresh balsamic herbs, and sweet flowers. The most concentrated of the wines in the range, it is still medium-bodied but has more richness throughout, as well as a more solar feel, with ripe wild raspberry, tea, and sweet tannins, though more grip. It leans toward the muscular side while retaining amazing purity and freshness throughout. If Luciani is the Burgundian equivalent of Chambolle Volnay, then Conca is the Gevrey-Chambertin."

"With fruit from the Berri Vineyard in La Morra, the Mauro Molino 2019 Barolo Gallinotto gives us a taste of a single-vineyard wine made outside the official MGA classification. The wine has a dustier personality with a bigger mineral presence that recalls limestone and crushed rock. That elegant note gives linearity and saying power to the wine, but it also serves to frame a core of wild berry and rose. This expression also shows a clear oak signature of spice or toasted cinnamon with drying tannins to follow. It offers the whole Nebbiolo package with hints of the extra intensity and firmness that define 2019. "

"Cinnamon candy, rose bud and pomegranate aromas, with some herbal and peppery notes, introduce this super-juicy Barolo. Crisp and with a light frame of chalky tannins, it's a great clean style focused on freshness and elegance rather than power. It ferments in stainless steel tank but undergoes malolactic in oak, where it ages for 18 months."

"Harmonious, this red sports cherry and raspberry flavors at the core, accented by eucalyptus, tobacco and mineral. Reveals a lean frame infused with assertive, grainy tannins. This will need a few years to integrate. Best from 2026 through 2042. ‡B.S."

"Orange peel, rose petals, sour cherries and balsamic on the nose, evolving to chocolate and hazelnuts. Creamy and inviting, with a full body, fine-grained tannins, and a tasty, nutty finish. Drink from 2025."

"The 2019 Barolo Gallinotto is a very pretty wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. There's plenty of immediacy, but not quite the depth or complexity of the very best wines in the range. Succulent red cherry fruit, cedar, pipe tobacco, menthol and dried flowers linger."

"Gallinotto is a subzone of Sottozone Berri at 380 m of elevation and with the oldest vines 35 years of age. A total of two weeks on the skins.Palish ruby. Gentle, sweet cherry and raspberry with a savoury, minerally undertow. Supple and gentle but with concentration, while maintaining elegance. Delicious, gripping tannins on the finish. (WS) "
