"The 2020 harvest for Ceretta was finished quite late on 13 October. Notes of wild strawberry and cinnamon are accompanied by hints of wax, liquorice, balsamic and bloody nuances. Fierce acidity supports firm, velvety tannins with great extraction on the mid-palate and a stern yet long aftertaste. There is great potential for ageing here. Lorenzo Scavino and his father manage this family-owned winery, which celebrates its 100th vintage with the 2020 harvest. This Barolo Cerretta undergoes fermentation with indigenous yeasts and a long maceration of 40 days with submerged cap. The oak chosen for the botti grandi must be 'thicker' – meaning older with a finer grain."

"What an aromatic nose of blood orange, cocoa nibs, pine, wet earth and wild strawberries. It's medium-bodied, firm yet elegant, with tight and fine-grained tannins. Excellent freshness and finesse, if a little tight on the palate for now. Try after 2027."

"The Azelia 2020 Barolo Cerretta is the most complete wine from vintner Luigi Scavino in this vintage. The fruit feels richer and more saturated, and you get greater textural heft on the palate (compared to some of the other wines in this portfolio that taste thin in comparison). I also enjoyed that touch of cherry sweetness that succeeds at fleshing out a longer finish. This is a limited release of 3,000 bottles from 2.5 hectares of vines planted on limestone clay soils."

"This classic Barolo showcases aromas of ripe cherries, plums and a hint of dried roses. On the palate, fine, chewy tannins create a vertical structure, supporting the concentrated fruit flavors, while the finish highlights more crushed chalk and salty minerality. Drink 2025–2045. —J.P."

"With one foot in the savory camp, this Barolo evokes eucalyptus, juniper and broom notes, with cherry and plum details lurking in the background. An underlying mineral element gathers on the finish. Best from 2028 through 2046. 720 cases made, 240 cases imported."

"The 2020 Barolo Cerretta is laced with the essence of black cherry, gravel, incense, dried herbs, licorice and espresso. It offers good depth and juiciness in the lighter style of the year."

"Mid ruby. Intense yet poised and gentle on the nose but takes time to reveal itself. The palate opens up to cherry and raspberry, followed by a layer of majestic tannins that strike a stunning balance with the fruit and the acidity. (WS)"

"Cerretta is one of my favorite sites in Serralunga d'Alba because it consists of vines wrapped around a hilltop with various exposures. For that reason, Cerretta wines can vary widely from producer to producer. The Azelia 2019 Barolo Cerretta has dark fruit and spice, but the bouquet is mostly colored by flinty mineral tones, smoke and pencil shaving. It offers terrific balance and also manages some softly perfumed notes of violet and blue flower that you don't get in the other wines. It sees 50 days of extended maceration and 30 months of aging in large oak casks. This is a very limited production of 3,200 bottles."

"This Cerretta blends a graceful nose with a powerful and youthful palate. Sweet violet, restrained red currant, cinnamon candy and a soapy, rose character on the nose lead to a crisp attack with firm, velvety tannins. It's thick on the finish yet soaked with citrus and leafy flavours. Fermented with indigenous yeast and aged for 24 months in botti."

"A lean, sinewy style, this red suggests cherry and strawberry fruit shaded by mint, cumin and tar accents. Though energetic, the finish is currently dominated by dense tannins. Requires patience. Best from 2027 through 2045. 400 cases made, 120 cases imported."

"Serralunga d,Alba. Youthful ruby. Crushed stones, savoury spice and a hint of leather, while still closed on the fruit. Concentrated palate that is lively with lots of juicy red fruit and bags of coating tannins. Fantastic balance and great purity of fruit on the finish but needs more time. (WS) 14.5%"
