"It can't have been easy to manage the ripening of Nebbiolo in the warmth of south-facing Cannubi in 2020 and, not by chance, Fenocchio's wine shows black fruit character alongside notes of chocolate, vibrant violet and mint. It's a very classic profile for this MGA: precise and elegant. Intensity on the palate with long, juicy acidity and velvety tannins soaked with a savoury fruit character and a very long finish."

"The 2020 Giacomo Fenocchio Cannubi is a beautiful, generous Barolo. It opens with heady aromas of forest berry, blue flower, new leather and star anise. On the elegantly structured palate, notes of licorice, cinnamon and blood orange accent a core succulent black cherry and pencil lead. Velvety tannins envelope the delicious flavors while fresh acidity keeps balanced."

"A wine that will make you pause and take note as aromas of dried cherries and warmed strawberries waft out of the glass, notes of incense, wild thyme, bay leaf and dried autumn leaves encapsulate the lucky few who find this wine. Refined and elegant, the palate is like a hug you didn't know you needed. It is full of plush warm notes of ripe wild berries, sweet and savory spices and leather all bound together as a group by polished tannins that are poised and stately. Drink now–2040. "Firm and structured with a medium to full body and taut tannins. Notes of red plums, cherries, spices and hints of tar, with vivid acidity and salty undertones at the end. Chewy finish. Try after 2027."

"Jeweled red in color, the 2020 Barolo Cannubi offers a very attractive nose with a ripe, floral perfume of raspberry liqueur, pressed roses, fresh rosemary, and mossy earth. Medium-bodied and elegant, it has refined, polished tannins, even acidity, and a graceful and long finish. This gorgeous Cannubi is delightful now and is going to improve over the coming 8-10 years. Drink 2024-2040."

"The 2020 Barolo Cannubi is a sensual, elegant wine. Sweet dried red cherry, tobacco, incense, leather and dried herbs grace this gentle, caressing Barolo. All the elements are nicely balanced. Best of all, the 2020 will drink well right out of the gate."

"Steeped cherry, plum, tar and pine forest flavors mark this sinewy red. Remains fresh, with dry tannins framing the fruit and savory notes on the finish. Best from 2027 through 2042. 300 cases made, 100 cases imported."

"A restrained Barolo with red currants, red cherries, bright violets and a balsamic touch on the nose. More elegant than powerful, it's medium- to full-bodied with enjoyable thick yet ripe tannins, crisp acidity and cherry stones in the finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2027."

"The 2021 Barolo Cannubi is another stellar Barolo in this range from Claudio Fenocchio. Aromatic and lifted, the 2021 is classic Cannubi. Bright acids cut through a core of sweet red-toned fruit, mint, orange peel, cinnamon and new leather. This chiseled, nuanced Barolo is a winner."

"While based in Monforte d'Alba, the Fenocchio family has owned a small 0.5ha slice in Cannubi Boschis for over 50 years and it has been bottled separately since 1980. Striking scents are redolent of rhubarb compote, cherry bark, toasted hazelnut and warm, dusty earth. This is full, dense and even a bit chewy as supple fruit fuses with seemingly pliant tannins which build with dry, sandy texture, providing a firm, well defined frame. Citrussy acidity is direct and penetrating, with a thrillingly crisp finish. I wouldn't touch it for at least a couple of years – Fenocchio's wines age exceptionally well."

"Moving to the Cru wines, the 2019 Barolo Cannubi is lifted and floral, with fresh wild berries, sweet herbs, and dried roses. Medium-bodied and refreshing, it has an elegant stony texture laced with fine tannins that make themselves known on the finish. This crispy and weightless red is already showing well but will benefit from another couple of years in the cellar before drinking over the following 15 years."

"Exotic spice, blue flower, eucalyptus and ripe berry aromas come to the forefront along with a whiff of new leather. Still young and tight but also savory and juicy, the firm, linear palate features raspberry compote, ripe red cherry, cinnamon and licorice framed in taut, refined tannins. Bright acidity keeps it well balanced. This is still youthfully austere so give it time to fully develop. Drink 2029†2039. Abv: 14.5% Kerin O,Keefe March 2023 'kerinokeefe"

"The 2019 Barolo Cannubi offers a striking combination of energy and depth. All the Cannubi signatures come through in this young but expressive Barolo. Crushed red berry fruit, cinnamon, red cherry and mineral notes race out of the glass. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2019 packs a pretty serious punch."

"The Giacomo Fenocchio 2019 Barolo Cannubi opens to a dark garnet color and suffers from a slightly muted bouquet. I notice this trait across the wines in this portfolio. There are dusty earthy aromas that cede to crushed flowers and dried currant. The tannins are fine and powdery. The wine gives more with time, but it never fully opened. This is a 3,000-bottle release."
