"Bricco Fiasco is a single cru, vinified by itself since 1978, today from vines of 85 years old. The wine, after long maceration and ageing in botti grandi, opens up to smoky woodland notes, with citrus leaf, bark, wild strawberry and rose water delicacy. Full of sucrosity on the palate, the attack is youthful, with firm acidity and grainy, very elegant tannins. Structure and concentration are perfectly woven and poised, giving to this cru terrific balance which will count for ageing."

"Aromas of orange blossom, cherries, hibiscus, and rose stem follow through to a medium body, with firm and silky tannins and a fresh and bright finish. Lovely citrusy acidity to this. Drink after 2026."

"Castiglione Falletto. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Complex, with quite a bit of concentration on the nose and, with aeration, opening up to perfumed cherry fruit. Juicy and with plenty of lifted acidity and plenty of slightly drying tannins, at least for the moment. The whole is elegant, though, and has great balance, while all single parts still need to integrate. (WS) 14.5%"

"The 2019 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is bright, precise and nicely delineated. Sweet red cherry, mint, white pepper and orange peel give this mid-weight, nervy young Barolo plenty of top register intensity. Deceptively understated and nuanced, the 2019 is going to be interesting to follow."

"Bricco Fiasco is a proprietary name for a vineyard in Castiglione Falletto with 85 year old vines. Luigi Scavino says, These vines represent a unique heritage for our family. The 2019 Barolo Bricco Fiasco (with 5,800 bottles released) is a little shy initially, with heavier berry fruit aromas that eventually relax to show campfire ash, pencil shaving and pressed rose. Put this bottle aside for a few more years."

"Shows aromas that hint at rose, strawberry and cherry, yet the palate is reserved and tight, offering more balsamic flavors of eucalyptus, juniper and pine. Reveals firm, dusty tannins as this finishes with strong grip. Best from 2027 through 2045. 600 cases made, 180 cases imported."

"A sleek and fine Barolo with a pretty nose of watermelon, orange slices, cranberries and crushed stones. Medium- to full-bodied with tightly-knit tannins. Mouthwatering acidity, too. Wonderful brightness. Try from 2028."

"Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. A fantastic concoction of ripe, red fruit and peppery minerality. Compact and almost a little racy and with velvety tannins that grow in stature on the finish, adding tactile fireworks. Still a little backward. (WS)"

"An enticing bouquet of ripe cherries, plums and alluring sweet spices like cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. Hints of dried roses and tar add complexity. Full-bodied and robust, with firm, well-integrated tannins and concentrated flavors of blackberry, raspberry and dark cherry. The long, persistent finish showcases lingering spice and subtle earthiness. Drink now–2040. Editors' Choice. —J.P."

"Savory notes of olive, sandalwood and cedar frame the kernel of strawberry and cherry in this sleek red. Driven by lively acidity, the flavors linger, picking up accents of orange peel, mineral and sweet spices. Refined, chalky tannins line the finish. Best from 2027 through 2045. —B.S."
