Barbaresco, ‘Basarin’, Moccagatta

This Barbaresco is birthed from the Basarin cru in Neive, Moccagatta’s only single vineyard located outside of the Barbaresco township. Basarin is marked by its high altitude and calcarerous-marl soils. These estate owned vineyards, dating back to 1967, are located at a southern exposure, allowing for proper sunshine at this high elevation site. The grapes are macerated on the skins in temperature-controlled steel vats before maturing in French oak barriques for 18 months.

Review:
”Toast and vanilla accents from new oak lend this a Bourbon note, but there are also pure cherry, earth and mineral flavors at the core. Comes together nicely on the lingering finish. Best from 2021 through 2035. 400 cases made.”

Review:
“The 2014 Barbaresco Basarin is another super-concentrated wine from Moccagatta. The Basarin, from a sandy site in Barbaresco that tends to give more lifted wines, exudes a level of depth and intensity that I don't think I have ever seen before here. Plum, black cherry, new leather, lavender and violets are some of the signatures. The 2014 is a superb Basarin with a bright future.”
