"A fantastic vintage of this wine, the ruby-hued 2019 Barbaresco Basarin is spicy and lifted with notes of potpourri, incense smoke, mint, and bright red berries. Medium-bodied, with good lift and balance, it's quite complex and offers lovely balance as well as length. Drink 2024-2037."

"Expressive, this red exudes black cherry, leather, tar and a touch of wild herb aromas and flavors. This has ample flesh to offset the firm structure, and the finish is framed by subtle vanilla and toasty oak. Excellent length. Best from 2026 through 2043. ‡B.S. "

"This is another excellent wine from Moccagatta. The 2021 Barbaresco Basarin reveals impeccable balance and intensity with lively tones of wild cherry, rose, blue flower and toasted spice. It ages in French oak for 18 months, and the wood is very nicely integrated in this vintage that delivers a natural sense of density and freshness. I recommend giving this wine a few more years of bottle age. Production is 5,000 bottles."

"Cedar, Amalfi lemons, potpourri and cranberries on the nose. Firmly structured with chewy tannins and citrusy acidity, while remaining medium-bodied. Tight and fresh. Try from 2027."

"A saturated ruby/magenta in color, the 2021 Barbaresco Basarin shows off lovely, ripe layers with spiced accents and also has notable oak spice, but it seems a bit less overt here. It's more red-fruited and has a slightly higher-toned profile in its notes of chocolate covered cherries, baking spices, violets, and incense. Medium-bodied, it has good drive and energy to its fresh acidity, and its finely coiled tannins add a plushness to the texture, with a chalkier, slightly more linear feel, although it's still ripe all the way through its long finish. I like this a bit more for drinking now, but it should age gracefully over the coming 10-12 years."

"The 2021 Barbaresco Basarin is a fine wine from this site. Crushed flowers, mint, spice, vanillin and a kiss of French oak all grace this attractive, mid-weight offering. The 2021 offers an appealing mix of fruit intensity and the more floral overtones typical of this site."

"Neive. Impressive dark ruby for Nebbiolo. A huge new-oak and sweet-sour-cherry-fruit nose. Certainly not for the shy! Lots of oak and bags of juicy cherry fruit on the palate with a layer of gravelly, drying tannins. Modernist and skilful † classic Moccagatta style † but the oak does cover the wine,s identity, at least for now. Impressive integration of the formidable alcohol. (WS)"
