RHYS VINEYARDS SPARKLING WINE ‘PERPETUAL RESERVE’ NV
This wine was the first sparkling wine from Rhys and is a delightful wine to enjoy before and during a Thanksgiving meal. There’s a classic profile of stone fruit, citrus peel, and brioche. Drawing from Champagne for inspiration, the vineyards were selected, planted, and farmed with an eye towards creating an age-worthy wine with lasting energy and vibrant acidity. North-facing and west-facing rocky vineyards were planted with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir selections commonly found in Champagne. Half of each vintage is blended back into reserve wine dating back to 2016. The current release is 78% Chardonnay and 22% Pinot Noir fermented in neutral oak for 8 months with partial malolactic before inoculation with a low dosage and two years en tirage.
Rhys Vineyards founded by Kevin Harvey in 2004, has become a California icon, celebrated for producing site-specific Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Anderson Valley. With a dedication to terroir-driven wines that showcase balance, complexity, and elegance, Rhys employs sustainable vineyard practices and a minimalist approach to winemaking. Inspired by the structure and longevity of Burgundy wines, Harvey has crafted Rhys as a benchmark for New World wines, where each vineyard’s unique soils and microclimate bring out distinct character in every bottle. |
OVUM ‘WHITE WINE’ 2023
Fresh, dry white blend where bright aromas of the wine are met with a dry, almost salty textured palate. The blend is mostly Riesling and Gewürztraminer with Early Muscat, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc. Each vineyard lot is treated differently on the crush pad: from soaking Early Muscat on skins for a few days, to Gewürz on skins for a few hours, or direct pressing whole cluster Riesling. Once pressed, the juice all goes into the same tank for fermentation. BIG SALT is great on its own for a crowd of wine lovers cooking up a storm, but it’s also a versatile pairing for lighter dishes. Oyster stuffing on the side of your turkey sounds perfect to us.
Ovum is a small family-run business led by husband-and-wife team John and Ksenija House. The winemaking is about finding the best expression of Oregon whites with a special focus on Riesling from vineyards throughout Oregon. The wines are made with native fermentation, no subtractions, and minimal additions. |
EVENING LAND GAMAY NOIR ‘SEVEN SPRINGS’ 2022
We love our Beaujolais, but if you want to stick with American wines, this Gamay is going to check those boxes and deliver a fresh and lively red. Evening Land’s Seven Springs Vineyard is farmed with biodynamic practices and the fruit goes through whole cluster carbonic fermentation with neutral barrel aging for four months. One acre is old, own-rooted vines planted in 1983 and the other two date back to 2003. This vintage matches juicy fruit character with darker and weightier notes of rosemary and iodine. The acid and tannin makes this an excellent match for dark meat with plenty of gravy.
Sashi Moorman and Rajat Parr are committed to crafting wines that authentically express terroir through their collaboration at Evening Land. With a focus on minimal intervention winemaking, they prioritize a site-driven approach that highlights the unique characteristics of their vineyards in Oregon’s Eola-Amity Hills and California’s Sta. Rita Hills. Their dedication to biodynamic farming at Seven Springs Vineyard and the meticulous production of the ‘Summum’ cuvée exemplify their expertise and passion for creating balanced, pure wines that reflect the essence of their historic sites. |
APOLLO’S PRAISE CABERNET FRANC ‘RESERVE – LAHOMA VYD’ 2023
We love what the winemakers from Apollo’s Praise say, “An old-world inspired red wine, but not an old-world Cabernet Franc.” Bramble fruits mix with an abundance of more savory notes like kalamata olive on the nose and violet and sage on the palate. Lamb and roast would be a great pairing. The clusters are crushed into a 400 gallon French oak tank and cold soaks with daily punchdowns for more than four weeks with the skins and stems. Then it goes to the basket press before being returned to the same oak tank till the next vintage.
Apollo’s Praise is the passionate endeavor of celebrated Finger Lakes winemakers Kelby James Russell and Julia Rose Hoyle as they strike out on a new adventure, having purchased their own estate and creating this label. |
DASHE CELLARS LATE HARVEST ZINFANDEL 2018
|
This is an ideal dessert wine with enough acidity and red fruit aromas to provide balance and depth. The grapes are harvested 3-4 weeks later than the rest of the Zinfandel and arrive at 40 ° Brix. The small batch fermentation gives the Dashe team a chance to closely monitor the natural fermentation and halt it around 15.5% ABV and 9% RS. This way all of the residual sugars are coming from the must. The wine then ages in older French oak to preserve the natural fruit characteristics. This is a lovely treat that we’d enjoy on its own.
Founded in 1996 by husband-and-wife team Michael and Anne Dashe, Dashe Cellars crafts single-vineyard wines that highlight Sonoma County’s unique terroirs. With over 40 years of combined experience from iconic wineries worldwide, the Dashes bring a gentle, natural approach to winemaking, emphasizing low yields, old vines, and hillside sites. Their Les Enfants Terribles series, introduced in 2007, showcases a refined, Old World style that celebrates cooler climates and sustainable vineyard practices. |
CRISTOM PINOT NOIR ‘MT. JEFFERSON CUVÉE’ 2022 – MAGNUM
|
A festive meal is always better with a few large format bottles. This Pinot Noir is a medium garnet color. On the nose it is showing cola berry, oolong tea and wild berry aromas. It has the signature Mt. Jefferson liveliness on the palate with bright, juicy red cherry flavors that echo on the finish. This is a versatile wine for pairing, so no need to be shy when going big on the Mt. Jefferson Cuvée in magnum.
Cristom Vineyards founded in 1992 by Paul and Eileen Gerrie in Oregon’s Eola-Amity Hills, is renowned for its elegant, terroir-driven Pinot Noir and commitment to sustainable viticulture. Each estate vineyard, named after a Gerrie family member, produces distinct wines that reflect the unique character of the Willamette Valley. Led by second-generation winegrower Tom Gerrie and winemaker Daniel Estrin, Cristom blends traditional techniques with biodynamic practices, creating wines celebrated for their complexity, depth, and environmental integrity. |
A TRIBUTE TO GRACE GRENACHE ‘HOFER VYD’ 2022 – MAGNUM
Another food-friendly magnum is the Hofer Vineyard Grenache from A Tribute to Grace. The vines are own-rooted, head trained dating back to 1919. Receiving a 98 from Vinous this fall, the Grenache evokes California’s Mission wine history with a clean, contemporary profile. It’s a little herbaceous with some savory notes. This wine will delight the adventurous wine drinker and stimulate some great conversation over a few refills near the end of a Thanksgiving dinner.
Angela Osborne, the winemaker behind A Tribute to Grace, hails from New Zealand and is dedicated to crafting exceptional Grenache wines. After moving to California in 2006, she discovered the ideal terroir for Grenache in the Santa Barbara Highlands Vineyard, where she sourced her first fruit in 2007. Named in honor of her grandmother and the essence of grace, Angela’s wines reflect a deep connection to nature, complemented by a beautifully designed label inspired by a personal moment at Moonlight Beach, symbolizing the enduring qualities of femininity and simplicity.
