REGION: Tuscany

One of the most sought-after producers in all of Italy, this estate has 35 hectares of prime holdings in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, including the famed ‘Pianrosso’ vineyard (a reference to the iron rich soils) and the ‘Fonte’ vineyard, which produces grapes for the Rossofonte Rosso di Montalcino.

Giovanna Ciacci and her two daughters own 30 hectares of south-facing vineyards between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell’Abate, where three of the region’s soil types meet: red clay, gray galestro, and sandy limestone. Wines mature in cask in a cellar beneath the estate’s ancient castle.

CP (“centopercento”) is a varietally-focused, value-driven project that concentrates on indigenous Italian grape varieties. Giorgio Rivetti of La Spinetta is winemaker.

Caterina Dei produces lush, perfumed, fruit-driven wines that are exquisite expressions of the local Prugnolo clone of Sangiovese. Her 60 ha. on the slopes below the picturesque town of Montepulciano are divided between the crus of Martiena, Bossona, La Piaggia, La Ciarliana and Cervognano.
