Stoic by Prince Trubetskoi
Prince Trubetskoi winery, founded in 1889, won the “Grand-Prix” in Paris in 1900 for its Riesling, making it one of Ukraine’s most historic wineries. In 1931, Dr. Konstantin Frank, born in Ukraine, was made responsible for a huge collective farm, called Lenina, that was made up largely from the nationalized Trubetskoi Estate. It was his experience at Trubetskoi, with a similar, if not actually colder, climate compared to the Finger Lakes, that gave him the confidence to pioneer the Vinifera movement in the Finger Lakes.
On February 24, 2022, in the first hours of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Prince Trubetskoi winery was attacked and occupied. 70 years of library wines were destroyed and looted, the main structure was badly damaged, and operations ceased. As an act of defiance and to ensure the eventual rebuilding, the “Stoic” project was launched in Ozerne village, Izmail district, Odesa region, on the shores of Yalpug Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Ukraine with grapes grown in the outstanding loam and limestone soils with its climate moderated by the Black Sea. Stoicism is about resilience, perseverance, and hope. With every bottle you support Prince Trubetskoi Winery’s revival.
