Steenberg

Steenberg

Located in the historic Constantia Valley Wine Lands, Steenberg is the oldest registered farm in the Western Cape, dating back to 1682. The farm was historically known as ‘Swaaneweide’ (Afrikaans for ‘The Feeding Place of Swans’), in which the spur-winged geese that roamed the area were mistaken for swans, and they still roam the property today. While Catharina Ras established the farm, Frederik Russouw purchased it in 1695 and established wine production. The farm remained in the Russouw family’s hands until the 1990s and was ultimately purchased by Antony Beck in 2005. Since the purchase by the Beck Family, the historic property continues to thrive and produce some of the finest Sauvignon Blanc in the Western Cape. Previously working for Warwick and Nederburg, Elunda Basson was appointed head winemaker in 2019.
