Harahorn
Named for the Norwegian mountain from which its primary botanicals are wild foraged, Harahorn is a contemporary gin brand produced by Det Norske Brenneri, or The Norwegian Distillery, in Grimstad, Norway.
Established in 2011 after the 2005 dissolution of the Norwegian government’s alcohol production monopoly, The Norwegian Distillery was Norway’s first private distillery in over eighty years. Its two founders, Odd Johan Nelvik and Stig Bareksten, founded the distillery with a focus on crafting cask-aged aquavit—the distillery also produces Høvding Aquavit—and now produce a full range of spirits, including Harahorn gin.
Harahorn is also the Norwegian name of the jackalope—a mythical animal found in Norwegian folklore depicted as a jackrabbit with antelope horns—that serves as an imaginary guide through the region where mountain plateau juniper, mountain farm rhubarb, and eastern lowland blueberries are foraged by hand for every batch of Harahorn gin. These three botanicals, along with local botanicals such as seaweed and herbs grown on the distillery’s own farm, make up some of the twenty-three botanicals that contribute to the soft, citrusy, and earthy profile of this unique gin.
Copper pot distilled in small, 300-liter batches to ensure consistency and quality control, Harahorn gin is a versatile, approachable gin perfect for Gin & Tonics or sipping over ice with a citrus twist.
