Garage Wine Co

Garage Wine Co. began quite literally in Pilar and Derek’s garage. GWCo makes wines from a series of small parcels each yielding only 8-22 barrels that include a series of dry-farmed field-blends and single-varietal wines of Carignan, Garnacha, Monastrell, País, Cinsault, Syrah, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc grown on pre-phylloxera rootstock in Maule and Itata. Each wine is from an individual 1-2-hectare parcel: Bagual, Caliboro, Coelemu, Guarilihue, Loncomilla, Portezuelo, Puico, Ranquil, Sauzal, Truquilemu. Over the years working in the community, they have raised a veritable posse of vineyard hands who are skilled at working the vineyards the old/traditional way — “originario”. These hands cultivate vineyards alongside small vigneron partners who work with horses and plough as their families have done for generations. Some of these parcels where the next generation have moved to the city have opted to rent long-term: creating stable, fruitful work for those of the family who want to stay.
