Casco Viejo Tequila
Produced by the revered Camarena family in the iconic distilling town of Arandas, Casco Viejo is an outstanding entry-level tequila from one of the finest tequila makers in the world, Gran Dinastía (formerly known as Casa Camarena). The Tequila Supremo fabrica, owned and operated by Gran Dinastía, is a beacon of both family history and modern thinking. With guidance from matriarch Elena Camarena, the family operates the same estate in Jalisco’s Los Alto region that they’ve worked since the 1830s, and in recent decades have emphasized progressive recycling and sustainable waste management in all aspects of their production. The Camarena family was one of the first tequila producers to make the commitment to environmental responsibility a substantial cornerstone of its philosophy.
Gran Dinastía tends eighteen fields in the Los Altos region to grows its single-estate agave, vertically integrating its production, and ensuring the quality of the Blue Weber used to make Casco Viejo. The highland plateau of Los Altos, around 7,000 feet above sea level, is widely regarded as one of the top agave-producing environments in Mexico by virtue of its iron- and clay-rich red soil, hot days of sun exposure, and cooling, breezy nights. The agave grown here for Casco Viejo is cooked in traditional brick furnaces, fermented in steel vats, and distilled twice in traditional pot stills made from a combination of copper and steel.
