Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese, Selbach-Oster
Tasting NotesVery old vines; much more explicit slate than usual; almost no botrytis; food-friendly, with glorious thrust of keen mineral. The body is lithe and springy.

Honeyed, smoky jellied black fruits can be discerned in the nose of the 2003 Riesling Auslese Zeltinger Sonnenuhr. Medium-bodied and expansive, it reveals quartz-like attributes drenched in a compote of red fruits, apples and pears. Suave and silky-textured, it is a sweet, voluptuous wine for drinking between 2008 and 2020.
A bouquet of orchid-like musky, spicy sweetness. Creamy but delicate on the palate, with baked apple, subtle spice, a touch of white raisin and wafting florality. Lovely oscillation of slate and fruit. Finishes with a light touch of fruit-skin chewiness and bitter vanilla notes playing against baked apple and wet stone. This was picked relatively late.
