Tudela del Duero, ‘Terreus’ Mauro

The top wine from Bodegas Mauro is 100% Tempranillo from 70-year-old vines in the Parajae de Cueva Baja vineyard. The wine was bottled in May of 2013 after spending 26 months in new and used French barrels. Skurnik’s Spanish portfolio manager considers this to be the best and most ageworthy wine produced in the Duero River valley.

Review:
Inky ruby. Powerful, exotically perfumed black and blue fruit aromas are complicated by notes of incense, candied lavender, mocha and Indian spices. Stains the palate with concentrated boysenberry and cherry liqueur flavors, energized by peppery spices and a strong mineral quality. Complex vanilla, woodsmoke, mineral and floral pastille notes come up on the strikingly long, nuanced finish, which features building tannins.
