Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru, ‘Clos des Forets St. Georges’, Domaine de l’Arlot

In Burgundy, a monopole (single estate vineyard) defines a unit of land which has been perfectly defined for centuries and owned by a single proprietor. The Clos des Forêts Saint Georges is a unique terroir that makes chiseled and elegant Pinot Noir. This wine is made with grapes only from its oldest vines of this storied limestone laden cru (the remainder is de-classed into the basic Nuits St. Georges).

Review:
(from an enormous 7.5 ha monopole planted in the early 1950s;
from yields of only 17 hl/ha in 2012). Deep ruby hue. This is much more sauvage in character and notably less elegant with
its ripe and very fresh dark berry fruit aromas that also evidence plenty of floral, earth and forest floor elements. There is excellent size, weight, punch and muscle to the broad-shouldered flavors that are very Nuits in character before concluding in
a powerful yet velvety and palate coating finish. This is also terrific and well-worth your attention.
