Kreuznacher Kahlenberg Riesling Trocken, Donnhoff
Kreuznacher Kahlenberg was first mentioned in 1499. It’s a southern slope of gravelly loam, perfect for dry wines with the characteristic spicy flavor found in wines of the Nahe.
The Kreuznach site is a gentle slope on gravelly loam, but has long been regarded as an excellent vineyard. I’d been leaving it out of the offering in a fruitless attempt to keep it tidy, but tidiness has no place in either rock & roll or the fine wine business. So: I found this ’14 to be really deft, stern but breathy, wonderfully fragrant, mineral, hint of maize or wet cereal. — Terry Theise
