Tasting Notes

The vineyard is in the hills in Hallgarten; it has hilly and flat sections, and the slopes sit on Taunus slate, not unlike the great Jungfer vineyard, but higher up and cooler. This wine was done in three new Stücks of Taunus oak, and it may be the best “oaky” Riesling I’ve ever tasted outside of some of the Von Winnings. There’s a curious sense of sweetness though the wine is quite dry. It’s fantastically mineral and flowery; lime blossom and balsam, smoke and quince. Don’t miss this; it’s another crazy dialect of Riesling, and it’s silly-delicious. — Terry Theise
