All 2010, deg 2/2014; the only all-Mesnil wine I offer at the NV level. It has ‘10’s herbal gooseberried greenness but also the most blatant chalkiness, and fruit aromas augur a broadening on the cork. But I suspect this will always be a fizz for rock-heads. A really intricate mélange of flowers, mineral and balsam appears, and the finish is grippy and complex.

Issuing entirely from holdings in Le Mesnil and from vintage 2009, the Pehu-Simmonet NV Brut Blanc de Blancs is pungently and distinctively redolent of lemon blossom, fresh lemon, resin, and oyster shell. Along with these come – on a creamily textured, yet simultaneously brightly juicy palate – herbal and nutty notes, leading to a long finish whose slightly sweet-sour cast somehow engenders productive tension rather than awkward disharmony. This ought to be worth following for at least a couple of years.
Minerally, with hints of smoke and crystallized honey accenting flavors of yellow plum, lemon curd, marzipan and a touch of bread dough. Expressive, with bright, mouthwatering acidity and refined texture. Disgorged August 2011. Drink now through 2018. 40 cases imported. –AN
(all 2009 fruit; disgorged in June, 2013): Light yellow. Aromas of white peach, citrus pith, honeysuckle and toasty lees, with good spicy lift. A fresh, lively midweight with vibrant pit fruit flavors complemented by a smoky mineral quality and a hint of anise. Finishes silky and long, with excellent focus and resonating minerality.
An elegant, pure,
cool and restrained nose features plenty of yeast, citrus and floral character. There is an equally restrained and refined mouth
feel to the intense and utterly delicious flavors, that are supported by a very fine effervescence, that culminate in a dry but not
really austere finish. While there is very good intensity this is essentially a wine of finesse and exactly what one wants, and
expects, from a fine blanc de blancs.
The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru stands out for its textural elegance and pure class. A layered, expressive wine, the Blanc de Blancs is long, polished and absolutely impeccable. White flowers, lemon oil and almonds add complexity on a finish that is all about nuance. This is one of the most polished wines I have tasted from David Pehu. The Blanc de Blancs is 100% 2009 Chardonnay. This bottle was disgorged in June 2013.
