‘Cerro Sur’ [Cabernet Franc/Cabernet Sauvignon], Favia

38% Cab Franc, 62% Cabernet Sauvignon from one of the most dramatic plantings of Cabernet Franc that Annie Favia & Andy Erickson have seen, situated high in the mountains on a large holding known as Rancho Chimiles. These mature vines, now in their mid-thirties, produce wines with a singular aromatic profile, broad muscular tannins and bright natural acidity. This area is unique, with perfectly drained volcanic and mineral-rich soils, a cooling breeze off the San Francisco Bay, and an infinite array of slopes and exposures.

Tasting Notes

No surprise, the soon-to-be-classic 2012 vintage is bold and expressive, with notes of fresh summer plum, sweet chai tea, cardamom, and star anise on the nose. A rush of flavors delivers a complex array from fresh red plum, cherry and violet, to cocoa butter, nutmeg, and salty sea.
