Featuring a delicate bead and lively acidity, this is fresh and floral, with a hint of orchard blossom wafting through the flavors of dried apricot, poached apple, anise, bread dough and honey. Drink now through 2016. -A.N.
(made from a blend of 2010, 2009, 2007 and 2006 wine; disgorged in April, 2013 after 40 months on its lees): Pale yellow. Mineral-accented scents of fresh citrus fruits, anise and buttered toast, with a subtle smoky quality building with air. Tightly focused and linear on entry, then fleshier in the mid-palate, offering spicy poached pear and Meyer lemon flavors and a touch of chamomile. Shows good energy on the finish, with the toasty note echoing.
The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Sélection Belles Années is soft, textured and inviting. Hazelnut, dried apricot and spice scents open up in the glass, followed by sweet floral notes that add lift in the finish. This is a very pretty wine, even if it has a little less of the pure energy and tension that are typical of the Gimonnet Champagnes. The Belles Années is a blend of vintages 2010, 2009, 2007 and 2006, from sites in Chouilly, Cuis, Oger and Cramant. This bottle was disgorged in April 2013.
