Brunello di Montalcino ‘Soccorso’, Enzo Tiezzi

A single-vineyard bottling from old vineyards surrounding the medieval church of La Madonna del Soccorso, located along the outer edge of the village of Montalcino itself. Dr. Tiezzi recently restored this high-altitude vineyard (450 m. above seal level) to pristine conditions, and the 2003 vintage is his first release from this parcel. The vines are still trained in the “alberello”, also known as “bush” or “free-standing”, style, and the wine is aged in the traditional large Slavonian-oak casks.

Tasting Notes

Both soft and nuanced, this is a lovely Brunello with complex layers and smooth tannins.  Bursts from the glass with aromas of Marasca cherries, vanilla, currants, and coffee. The palate has fine, elegant tannins, and notes of brambles with a delightfully harmonious balance.
