Cabernet Sauvignon, ‘Altagracia’, Araujo
Altagracia, named after Bart’s paternal grandmother, is a Bordeaux-style blend vinified in the same manner as the Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruit for Altagracia is sourced both from the Eisele Vineyard and from certain other Napa Valley vineyards where we hold long-term grape contracts and which are farmed to specification. This Napa Valley Red Table Wine, while very ageable, is readily enjoyable in its youth. 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, 4% Malbec.
The warm spring of 2013 brought few frosts, but also exceptionally little rain. These conditions resulted in small berry sizes giving excellent flavor concentration and structure to the wine. Summer provided optimal ripening conditions, with overcast mornings, mild temperatures during the day and cool nights. The first Cabernet Sauvignon parcels were picked on September 12th under ideal conditions, and harvest was completed on October 1st. The fruit was delicious, intense and very complex. 2013 will likely be remembered as one of the greatest vintages in the history of the Napa Valley, and it is also one with particular significance for the estate, as the first vintage “from berry to bottle” under the Pinault family ownership.
